Martin Luther King Jr.
He was born Michale Luther King, but later changed his name to Martin. He was born on January 15, 1929 at his family home in Atlanta, Georgia. King Baptist minister and leader of the civil-rights movement in America from the Mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. He promoted the nonviolent ways of to achieve civil rights. As a pastor at the Baptist church in Atlanta, he led a bus boycott. Himself and about 90 other were arrested and indicted under it being illeagal to obstruct the opperation of a business.
As the bus Boycott went on, King was recieving a national Reputation. The sucess of the boycott made King a Hero. Further down the road, while King was in Birmingham, Alabama, he was put into jail. An article was written about the situation by some clergymen. It was not very nice, so King wrote a responce to this article which inspired the growing national awareness of the Civil Rights Movement. Also in 1963 King led a massive march on Washington DC where he delivered the famous speech I Have A Dream. In this speech he favored nonviolent action against segregation.
